I think a lot of people have noticed that their 5G router is really fast in the morning. Then it slows down in the afternoon and sometimes it gets even faster at night. This is all happening in the place, which is weird.

A lot of people think that there is something with their router or SIM card.. The truth is, 5G speeds can change because of how the network works. It is not like fiber broadband, where you have your special connection. 5G is like a shared road that lots of people use at the time.

5G is a shared network. This is the difference between 5G and traditional broadband. With fiber your home has its special connection.. With 5G hundreds of people might be using the same base station at the same time.
Imagine you are driving on a highway. Early in the morning there are not cars so you can drive fast.. During rush hour the highway gets crowded and you have to slow down. A 5G network works in a way. When more people use the cell tower they have to share the available resources.
Network congestion during peak hours is usually the reason why 5G speeds change. Most mobile networks get busy at times like early evening, weekends and public holidays. During these times lots of people are streaming videos, downloading files playing games using media and joining video meetings.
Even if your signal strength stays the same the available bandwidth per user might decrease. We have tested this in places, like the United States, Saudi Arabia, Germany and Thailand and we see the same pattern. Peak-hour slowdowns happen no matter what router brand you use.
The quality of the signal can also change throughout the day. Some people only look at the number of signal bars. Signal strength and signal quality are not the same thing. A router can show signal strength but still have problems like interference, network noise and lower signal quality.
Weather, buildings and temporary obstacles can all affect the radio conditions. Modern 5G routers adjust to these changing conditions all the time.
Different frequency bands behave differently. Most operators use frequency bands at the same time. For example your router might switch between low-band frequencies for coverage mid-band spectrum for balanced performance and high-band spectrum for maximum capacity.
This is why your speed can change even if your router does not move. Carrier Aggregation allows a router to combine frequency bands but these extra carriers are not always available. The network might allocate resources based on traffic, spectrum availability and operator policies.

Other factors include the direction of the tower the materials used in the building, trees, indoor reflections and network optimization.
We have tested places where moving the router a little bit closer to a window increased the download speed by more than 30%. Sometimes where you put the router matters than how far it is from the cell tower.
Indoor placement can make a difference. One of the ways to improve performance is to put the router in a good spot. Good locations usually include near windows, higher shelves and areas with obstacles.
Avoid putting the router in cabinets behind televisions to large metal objects or in basements. Small adjustments can make a difference in both speed and stability.
Weather can also affect performance. Heavy rain, fog or storms might reduce performance especially for higher-frequency 5G bands.
Your router also plays a role in how your 5G works. Not all 5G routers are the same. Several hardware factors can affect performance like the 5G modem generation, Carrier Aggregation capability and antenna design.

These adjustments will not eliminate network congestion. They can help your router make the best use of available resources.
